Monks come to TGBC through the year to lead our pujas and teachings. Today there is nowhere at the centre for them to stay.

僧人常年来到本中心主持法会,却没有一个可以安住的地方。请帮助我们建两间简单的僧寮。

Our centre at 3C Campbell Lane has only two rooms. The balcony behind the kitchen could become two simple monk rooms, so that visiting Sangha can live at the centre, pray with us every morning and evening, and be close to the community they serve. But today it leaks every time it rains, there is no light after dark, and it is too hot by day. The photos above are exactly how it looks now.

Goal: S$7,400The contractor's full quotation for the works, the new floor, and two beds. Every item above is one real line of that plan, and all of them together add up to exactly S$7,400.

Your name dedicatedRinpoche reads every sponsor's names in the weekly prayers and at the blessing of the rooms.

What the problem is

  • Rain comes through the roof. The old polycarbonate sheets and joints leak, so the area cannot be used as a room.
  • No lights, no power. After sunset the balcony and kitchen are dark.
  • Nowhere for the Sangha to stay. Visiting monks cannot live at the centre, so they cannot be here for the daily prayers.
  • It does not feel like a temple yet. Worn tiles from the lift to the kitchen are the first thing a visitor sees.

What your offering builds

Two monk rooms
Partitions with waterproof panels, timber doors with locks, built from the wooden door outwards.
A bed for each monk
A simple bed frame and mattress in each room.
A dry, cool roof
Waterproof coating with fibre cloth, sealed joints, and a new ceiling with rock-wool insulation.
Aircon
One indoor unit in each monk room, with the existing compressors re-stacked neatly.
Lights and power
Lights and double sockets for both rooms, and lights and power for the kitchen and dining area.
Five aluminium windows
Casement windows to keep rain out and let air in.
New wooden floor
Warm Sunset Oak flooring from the lift entrance all the way to the kitchen, so everyone who walks in feels welcome.
Kitchen, laundry, storage and painting
A proper sink, the washing machine relocated, the old drain closed, a storage platform at the staircase, and the whole area repainted.
Why this matters. The Buddha praised offering a dwelling to the Sangha as one of the greatest material offerings, because every prayer, teaching and puja that happens there afterwards carries your merit with it. The monks who rest in these rooms will pray at the centre every day. Your name goes with them.
