Initiations & Empowerments 灌顶与殊胜加持
What is an initiation?什么是灌顶?
An initiation (wang, 灌顶) is a blessing ceremony in which a qualified lama transmits the practice of a Buddha to you — planting the seed, giving you permission to do the practice, and connecting you to an unbroken lineage that goes back to the Buddha. You do not need to be Buddhist to attend, and many people come simply to receive the blessing.
What it means to receive one. In Tibetan Buddhism, receiving an initiation is more than attending a ceremony: it creates a bond. The lama who gives it becomes one of your teachers (gurus), you become connected to the deity's lineage, and you take on a light commitment (samaya) — usually a short daily mantra and keeping a kind heart toward your teacher and fellow practitioners. Rinpoche explains the exact commitment on the day, and it is always something a busy lay person can keep.
