Every Saturday, the doors of Tashi Gephelling Buddhist Centre (TGBC) open to anyone seeking a moment of stillness, community, and Dharma practice in the heart of Singapore. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner or simply curious about Tibetan Buddhism, you are warmly welcome.
Where and When
TGBC holds weekly Saturday prayers at our shrine hall at 8A Mayo Street, Singapore 208308. All are welcome regardless of background or experience.
What Happens During Saturday Prayers?
Saturday prayers at TGBC typically include recitation of the Medicine Buddha puja, Tara prayers, and dedications of merit for the benefit of all beings. Prayers are led by Rinpoche or a senior member of the sangha and are conducted in Tibetan with English and Chinese guidance available.
The puja begins with taking refuge and generating bodhicitta — the wish to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings. This is followed by the main practice, offering prayers, and a closing dedication.
Who Can Attend?
Everyone is welcome — you do not need to be Buddhist to join. Many of our community members came for the first time out of curiosity and have stayed for years. The atmosphere is warm, inclusive, and non-judgmental. Children are welcome with a parent or guardian.
What to Bring and Wear
There is no strict dress code, though modest clothing is appreciated out of respect for the sacred space. You may wish to bring a cushion if you prefer sitting on the floor, though chairs are available. No prior knowledge of Tibetan or Buddhist practice is required.
Making Dharma Offerings
Many attendees choose to make Dharma offerings during or after prayers as a way to accumulate merit and support the centre's activities. Common offerings include:
- Butter lamp or candle sponsorships
- Medicine Buddha Long Life Lamps (dedicated to loved ones' health)
- Food and flower offerings for the altar
- Financial donations to support ongoing pujas and community activities
All offerings at TGBC are non-profit and dedicated to the benefit of sponsors and all beings. You can make offerings in person or through our online Give page.
